Figure 2-1. A simplified model of the candidate mapping exercise. Content designers worked together to audit products used in various stages of the hiring funnel, and when they found a word that referred to a candidate, they wrote it on a gray sticky note. We found that candidates were consistently called “applicants” from the application phase to onboarding.
